In Psalm 62 David expands the theme by declaring repeatedly that God alone is his rock, salvation, defense, refuge, and glory, urging others to pour out their hearts before Him because all power belongs to God and men of every rank prove lighter than vapor by comparison. God as Shield is presented in the assurance given to Abram after the peace meal with the King of Peace. The King of Peace states that He is Abram's shield and his exceedingly great reward. This promise assures Abram's courage going forward. From this point forward the King of Peace would continue to do what He needed to do to assure Abram's courage going forward.
