Self judgment requires a person to examine himself against the standard set by Christ before being critical of a brother. This examination reveals so many flaws in oneself that one becomes shamed and humbled into approaching a brother in the right spirit. A warning states that a person looks at the speck in his brother's eye but does not consider the plank in his own eye. The instruction follows to first remove the plank from one's own eye and then one will see clearly to remove the speck out of his brother's eye. Another warning indicates that the judgment made about others is in reality the judgment received from God. A man is directed to examine himself so that he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup in a worthy manner. If people would judge themselves they would not be judged. This approach demands that one consider his own weaknesses and limitations before thinking about the depth, extent and intensity of the faults of others.
