Pentecost and Memorial Day
CGG Weekly by Richard T. RitenbaughMemorial Day, occurring at the end of May, marks both an end and a beginning. For many, especially children, it signifies the conclusion of the school year and the start of the carefree summer months, ushering in vacation until Labor Day in early September. More solemnly, for those who have lost loved ones in the nation's wars, Memorial Day closes one year and begins another without the soldier, sailor, airman, marine, or guardsman or -woman who gave their life defending American freedom. For them, this day is a solemn occasion of remembrance and pride in the patriotism of their fallen service member, renewing in many a commitment to the national values so many have died to protect.
