The Miracles of Jesus Christ: Two-Demon Possessed Men Healed (Part Two)

Bible Study by Martin G. Collins

In the accounts of Matthew 8:28-34, Mark 5:1-20, and Luke 8:26-39, the miracle of healing two demon-possessed men is recounted with vivid detail. Mark and Luke focus on one man in particular, describing his condition graphically, while Matthew mentions a second, less prominent companion who suffered similarly. With a mere word of command, Christ delivered both men from the profound uncleanness caused by the demons possessing them. The uncleanness of both the men and the demons is evident as the men emerged from tombs, places deemed repulsive and defiling. Such locations, associated with death, were shunned as unfit and polluting, rendering those who dwelt there as unclean in both a physical and spiritual sense. This defilement reflects a state of sin and unfitness, separating individuals from purity and holiness. The power of God's Word played a central role in this exorcism. Despite the severity of the possession, described as a legion of demons, it took only a few words from Christ to free the men. His command carried authority and power, instantly casting out the unclean spirits. While human efforts to restrain these men with chains and bonds failed, addressing only external symptoms, Christ's approach began internally, using the unchained power of God's Word to correct the root of the problem. This demonstrates the transformative might of divine authority, capable of cleansing and restoring even the most burdened individuals.

The Miracles of Jesus Christ: Two Demon-Possessed Men Healed (Part One)

Bible Study by Martin G. Collins

During His brief stay in Gadara, Jesus encountered two demon-possessed men. While one account highlights both men, another focuses on a single, more prominent and aggressive individual who likely spoke for them both. These men exemplified the dreadful influence of evil forces, as their condition reflected the intrusion of spiritual parasites into their bodies and minds, causing conflict and disharmony. Their possession resulted in evident sensuality, violence, and mental disorders, with one man displaying clear signs of insanity aggravated by demonic presence. Jesus approached such manifestations of evil with serious intensity and authority, openly declaring the source of these afflictions as Satan and his demons.

Feast of Tabernacles Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

Ezekiel 28 reveals that Satan's fate will be ashes in the Lake of Fire; it would be inconsistent with God's character for Him to inflict pain eternally.
