Assurance (Part Three): Glory and Hope
Sermon by Martin G. CollinsThe concept of spiritual sonship is central to understanding our assurance as Christians. We have been given the spirit of adoption to sonship, which assures us that we will be fully spiritual children in God's spiritual Kingdom. As children, we are heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified together. This adoption into God's family has already taken place, yet we still await the full privileges of our sonship. The future aspect of our adoption refers to the time when we will enter into the full rights of our inheritance in glory, akin to the Roman custom where a son is publicly acknowledged as an heir. This dual aspect of sonship—past and future—reflects our current status as adopted children and our hopeful expectation of the complete realization of our inheritance.
Born Again (Part 3)
Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)We have been adopted into the family of God and have become members of God's Kingdom. The Kingdom is here in the same way the church is a spiritual entity.
Assurance (Part Two): Of the Path to Glory
Sermon by Martin G. CollinsIn Romans 8:14, we are taught that those led by the Spirit of God are God's children, indicating membership in God's Family. This is a crucial aspect of our assurance as Christians, as it signifies that we are true Christians if we are led by God's Spirit in our daily lives. This spiritual sonship means we live in obedience to our Holy Father, walking the sanctified path of discipleship. Despite our failures, we are empowered to rise and continue forward, growing in grace, knowledge, and holiness according to our Father's will. This growth is facilitated by Jesus Christ's tutelage through the Spirit, as He always does the will of His Father. Furthermore, the plural nature of the words in Romans 8:14 emphasizes that those led by the Spirit of God are our true brothers and sisters, part of the same spiritual Family. This unity transcends secular differences within the church, such as status, personality, background, and economic conditions, which often lead to unnecessary divisions. True Christians are recognized as brothers or sisters in Christ by their being led by God's Spirit, not by their group affiliation. This shared spiritual sonship calls us to work together to fulfill God's purposes, as we are all doing the will of God if led by the Spirit.
Heirs of the Kingdom
CGG Weekly by Mike FuhrerUnder God's plan of salvation, an individual's descent or station in life is no excuse for unbelief and sin, nor must it be a hindrance to faith and obedience. The centurion demonstrates what God expects; he humbles himself and shows his faith. These actions were so rare among the Jews that Jesus, astonished to see it in this Gentile, commends him for it. It stands as a model of faith for all to follow. This scene illustrates that, like physical healing, spiritual salvation is at once the effect and the evidence of the faith a person receives from God. The Jews, the natural children of faithful Abraham and heirs of the promises made to him, will be cast out if they fail to go through this same process of humility and faith. Yet those whom God calls to join in the faith of Abraham no matter who they are in this world will find themselves exalted as Christ's brethren. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. It is they, coming from east and west, who will sit down in fellowship with the esteemed patriarchs in the Kingdom of God, in the New Jerusalem. Remain humble and faithful to claim this glorious reward!
What the Holy Spirit Does (2005)
Sermon by Richard T. RitenbaughGod's Spirit will never prod us to do anything that is not godly love, and because it a spirit of a sound mind, it will never motivate us to do crazy things.
