  • Malachi 3:5-12
    And I will come near you for judgment;
    I will be a swift witness
    Against sorcerers,
    Against adulterers,
    Against perjurers,
    Against those who exploit wage earners and widows and orphans,
    And against those who turn away an alien'
    Because they do not fear Me,'
    Says the LORD of hosts.
    "For I am the LORD, I do not change;
    Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.
    Yet from the days of your fathers
    You have gone away from My ordinances
    And have not kept them.
    Return to Me, and I will return to you,”
    Says the LORD of hosts.
    “ But you said,
    ‘ In what way shall we return?’ "Will a man rob God?
    Yet you have robbed Me!
    But you say,
    "In what way have we robbed You?"
    In tithes and offerings.
    You are cursed with a curse,
    For you have robbed Me,
    Even this whole nation.
    Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
    That there may be food in My house,
    And try Me now in this,"
    Says the LORD of hosts,
    "If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
    And pour out for you such blessing
    That there will not be room enough to receive it.
    'And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes,
    So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground,
    Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,'
    Says the LORD of hosts;
    And all nations will call you blessed,
    For you will be a delightful land,”
    Says the LORD of hosts.

  • Hebrews 7:1-12
    For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being translated 'king of righteousness,' and then also king of Salem, meaning 'king of peace,' without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually. Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils. And indeed those who are of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment to receive tithes from the people according to the law, that is, from their brethren, though they have come from the loins of Abraham; but he whose genealogy is not derived from them received tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. Now beyond all contradiction the lesser is blessed by the better. Here mortal men receive tithes, but there he receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives. Even Levi, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, so to speak, for he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him. Therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be called according to the order of Aaron? For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law.

    Who has delivered your enemies into your hand." And he gave him a tithe of all.

  • 1 Corinthians 9:8-14
    Do I say these things as a mere man? Or does not the law say the same also? For it is written in the law of Moses, “You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain.” Is it oxen God is concerned about? Or does He say it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written, that he who plows should plow in hope, and he who threshes in hope should be partaker of his hope. If we have sown spiritual things for you, is it a great thing if we reap your material things? If others are partakers of this right over you, are we not even more? Nevertheless we have not used this right, but endure all things lest we hinder the gospel of Christ. Do you not know that those who minister the holy things eat of the things of the temple, and those who serve at the altar partake of the offerings of the altar? Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel.
