• Matthew 17:1-9
    Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!" And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. But Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.” When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.”

And the word of the LORD came to Isaiah, saying, “Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will add to your days fifteen years.
     
  • Isaiah 38:9-22
    This is the writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick and had recovered from his sickness:
    I said,
    “ In the prime of my life
    I shall go to the gates of Sheol;
    I am deprived of the remainder of my years.”
    I said,
    “ I shall not see YAH,
    The LORD in the land of the living;
    I shall observe man no more among the inhabitants of the world.
    My life span is gone,
    Taken from me like a shepherd’s tent;
    I have cut off my life like a weaver.
    He cuts me off from the loom;
    From day until night You make an end of me.
    I have considered until morning—
    Like a lion,
    So He breaks all my bones;
    From day until night You make an end of me.
    Like a crane or a swallow, so I chattered;
    I mourned like a dove;
    My eyes fail from looking upward.
    O LORD, I am oppressed;
    Undertake for me!
    “ What shall I say?
    He has both spoken to me,
    And He Himself has done it.
    I shall walk carefully all my years
    In the bitterness of my soul.
    O Lord, by these things men live;
    And in all these things is the life of my spirit;
    So You will restore me and make me live.
    Indeed it was for my own peace
    That I had great bitterness;
    But You have lovingly delivered my soul from the pit of corruption,
    For You have cast all my sins behind Your back.
    For Sheol cannot thank You,
    Death cannot praise You;
    Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for Your truth.
    The living, the living man, he shall praise You,
    As I do this day;
    The father shall make known Your truth to the children.
    ' The LORD was ready to save me;
    Therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments
    All the days of our life, in the house of the LORD.' Now Isaiah had said, “Let them take a lump of figs, and apply it as a poultice on the boil, and he shall recover.” And Hezekiah had said, 'What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?'

    The righteous perishes,

    Merciful men are taken away,

And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. Then He said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me." He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will." Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, "What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done." And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy. So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. Then He came to His disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand."

    For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
     
  • Romans 15:27-29

But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people's matters. Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter. For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? Now
    "If the righteous one is scarcely saved,
    Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?" Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.
