Overcoming Doubt

CGG Weekly by John Reiss

Doubts are a natural part of the Christian journey, often arising from personal losses or unanswered prayers, leaving us feeling empty and questioning our faith. These uncertainties can stem from being of two minds, wavering between choices, or engaging in internal deliberations that challenge our convictions. The struggle with doubt is not uncommon, and it can serve as a springboard to greater understanding if addressed swiftly and properly. Overcoming doubt requires seeking God in faith, trusting in His revelation, character, and guidance, as without faith it is impossible to please Him. We must not disregard the truths we have learned and proven, nor forget His faithfulness, even when pressures and situations test our convictions. When doubt strikes, we must stand firm, dust ourselves off, and keep moving forward, remembering the countless times we have witnessed His interventions and blessings. Trusting that He knows what He is doing, we should not let misgivings sink our faith, but instead maintain our pace toward the goal with endurance. Even in the face of troubling events, we must hold to the hope that challenges are necessary steps toward His Kingdom, confident that He has created us for this time and believes in our ability to endure.

There is nothing wrong with proving what we believe is true, but when God tells us to prove Him, it is a positive statement. He does not say to disprove Him.

Making Faithful Choices (Part Two)

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

God demonstrated to Gideon, through His systematically whittling his army from 30,000 to 300, that His providence, and not Gideon's might, would bring victory.

Resilience in Service

Sermonette by Hunter D. Swanson

Resilience in overcoming doubts is a powerful force, as seen in the incredible feats of athletes who push through physical and mental challenges. Just as they must overcome fear and embrace discomfort to achieve greatness, we too are called to serve God and one another with the same boldness. Doubts often arise in our minds, whispering excuses like lacking energy, time, or worthiness to help others, but we must push past these hesitations. Serving God's people requires us to overcome fears of inadequacy and be willing to step into uncomfortable situations, trusting that He will equip us for the task. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. When we feel unqualified or timid, we must remember that He chooses the weak to demonstrate His strength. Doubts and reluctance, as exemplified by Moses, who questioned his own abilities despite direct assurance from God, are natural, yet God provides what we need to succeed in His service. Even when we resist, He remains patient and supplies the means to fulfill His will. Overcoming doubts is not about self-confidence, but about trusting in what God can do through us. The fear of being stuck in service or facing ongoing challenges can also breed doubt, but serving God is an honor, not a burden. We must cast aside cowardice and embrace the call to serve, knowing that God will sustain us through every trial. Let us be bold, willing to endure discomfort, and trust that He will provide as we move forward in true service to His family.
