The Path to Magnificence

Sermon by Mark Schindler

Captain Ed Hall, a decorated war hero, faced immense shame and guilt for failing to live up to the high standards expected of him as a soldier and son. Despite his valor in combat, earning promotions and the Silver Star, he was charged with collaborating with the enemy during his time in a Korean prisoner of war camp. Overwhelmed by the testimony of fellow prisoners who accused him of betrayal, including informing on an escape attempt that led to deaths and torture, he was consumed by remorse. His father, a distinguished career officer, reacted with rage and disappointment, wishing his son had died instead of his younger brother. Racked with guilt, Captain Hall initially wanted to plead guilty and escape the weight of his failure. The court ultimately found him guilty of collaboration for not adhering to the basic rule of repeating only name, rank, and serial number, thus giving the enemy an opening. His failure to meet the expected standards of loyalty and endurance under pressure left him isolated, burdened by the fear of loneliness and the shame he brought upon himself and his family.

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

Samson had what it took but made horrible mistakes and lapses in judgment. God can use people despite their flawed character.

'Ready Answer' by Mike Ford

What is perfection? Does God require perfection of us? The Bible defines perfection in a surprising way, and tells to what standard God holds us accountable.
