Wisdom: Only Through The Grace of God

Sermon by Mark Schindler

The Wisdom of God, as exemplified through Solomon, reveals both the immense gift and the grave responsibility bestowed upon those chosen by His grace. Solomon, known as Jedidiah, Beloved of God, received the extraordinary gift of wisdom directly from Him, as seen in I Kings 3, where his request for discernment pleased God immensely. This wisdom, evident in his judgment between the two women claiming the same child, caused the people to hold him in reverential awe, recognizing the divine source of his discernment. Yet, despite this divine endowment, Solomon's lack of personal conviction led him astray from the Giver to the gift itself. His failure to adhere to the instructions given by his father David and by God, as outlined in Deuteronomy 17, to study and live by the law, turned his focus to the gift rather than strengthening his relationship with God. This shift in focus allowed vanity to guide his life, diminishing the potential of what he could have achieved as the Beloved of God. The lesson for us is clear: all we have and are is by the grace of God, and every gift must be used to fulfill His purpose, not our own. We must live as living sacrifices, completely set apart to God, understanding that His grace continuously outflows to us, enabling us to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to Him. Everything we possess is a gift by His grace, to be used as He sees fit for His glory.
