Behind Enemy Lines: Lucifer, Helel, and Satan
Sermonette by Clyde FinkleaHelel, originally an anointed cherub, rebelled against God and was cast back to Earth. God renamed him Satan, which means adversary, reflecting his opposition to God, believers, and all that is good. Satan is also known as the devil, meaning slanderer or defamer, and is described as the great red dragon, emphasizing his power, murderous nature, and cruelty. He is referred to as the serpent of old, highlighting his craftiness and deceptive nature, and the evil one, indicating his active and malignant evil. Satan is the prince of the power of the air, leading the demonic host to spread deception and temptation. He continuously works to energize disobedience in mankind. Despite his many names and deceptive methods, Satan is a defeated foe whose days are numbered, as God will soon crush him under the feet of believers.
Behind Enemy Lines (Part One)
CGG Weekly by Clyde FinkleaHeylel, also known as Lucifer in the King James Version, was an anointed cherub who rebelled against God. Originally, he was one of two cherubs whose wings covered the throne of God. Heylel's fall from his exalted position occurred when he attempted to overthrow the Almighty and set up his own throne in God's place, as recorded in Isaiah 14:12-14. The Hebrew word heylel, from which Lucifer is derived, is used only once in the Bible and is linked to the root word halal, meaning praise, glory, and boast. Heylel was created to praise and glorify God but became boastful, seeking praise and glory for himself. Consequently, God cast him back to the earth and renamed him Satan, reflecting his true nature as the adversary of God and all who stand with Him.
Did God Create a Devil?
Herbert W. Armstrong BookletThe Bible reveals the origin of the devil through the figure of Lucifer, a created being of extraordinary beauty and wisdom. Originally, Lucifer was a super archangel, a cherub placed by God on a throne to administer His government over the angels on earth. He had been at the very throne of God in heaven, experienced in divine administration, and was perfect in his ways from the day he was created until iniquity was found in him. His heart became lifted with pride due to his beauty, leading to vanity, self-glory, and envy of God's power. Lucifer rebelled, resenting authority over him, and plotted with his angels to form an invading army to overthrow God and rule the universe. He declared his intent to ascend into heaven, exalt his throne above the stars of God, and be like the Most High. This rebellion transformed him from a bringer of light into Satan, meaning Adversary, and his followers became demons. A third of the angels joined him in this revolt, causing chaos on earth as their sin reached into the heavens. The earth, initially a perfect creation where angels shouted for joy, became chaotic due to this rebellion. Lucifer, once a ruler under God's government, refused to carry out God's will and sought to substitute his own, disqualifying himself from his position. Though God did not create a devil, Lucifer transformed himself into one through his rebellion against the Government of God.
