Winners Never Quit

CGG Weekly by Clyde Finklea

The Greek word for endure, hupomeno, signifies to endure under heavy provocation. This concept is vital during the Tribulation, a time of unparalleled trouble as described in Revelation 13:10, which states that if anyone is meant for captivity, into captivity he will go, and if anyone is to be killed by the sword, then by the sword he must be killed. This demands steadfast endurance and faith from the saints. The call to endure, as emphasized by Jesus Christ, is a solemn reminder of the difficult times ahead, requiring unwavering resolve and commitment to reach the goal of God's Kingdom, no matter the trials faced.

Endure to the End of What?

Article by Craig Sablich

In II Thessalonians 1:4, Paul speaks of endurance in the face of persecutions and tribulations. A deeper insight into this quality is found in I Corinthians 13:7, where love is described as enduring all things. Here, the word for "endures" is hupomeno (G5278), which means to take patiently, to suffer, not to recede or flee, and to persevere under misfortunes and trials. This same term is used by Jesus in Matthew 24:13, where He states that he who endures to the end shall be saved, emphasizing the importance of steadfast perseverance through challenges and events that test one's resolve.

Persevering to the End

CGG Weekly by John W. Ritenbaugh

The Greek word *hupomeno* (Strong's 5278), as used by Jesus in Matthew 24:13, translates to "endures" but can also mean "persevere." It suggests a situation at the end time where one must simply bear up under extreme circumstances and hold onto faith with unwavering determination. Unlike mere endurance, which implies a passive tolerance of hardship, *hupomeno* can carry the sense of actively persisting through trials, reflecting a steadfast commitment even when no other action is possible.
