The Commandments (Part Five)

Sermon/Bible Study by John W. Ritenbaugh

The Sabbath, often regarded as the least of the commandments in the eyes of many, is frequently dismissed as a minor obligation that can be altered or replaced by any other day. Yet, this perception underestimates its profound significance. God specifically designated the seventh day as holy, sanctifying it and setting it apart from all other days. No man possesses the authority to make a day holy, for only a holy God can do so, and He has declared the Sabbath as such. This day is not merely a time for physical rest but a deliberate memorial of God's creative power, tied directly to the Creation Week, and intended for all mankind, not just a specific group. The Sabbath's importance is evident in its role as a sign between God and His people, identifying and sanctifying them, setting them apart from the world. Its neglect often leads to a loss of connection with God, paving the way for idolatry, as history shows with Israel's captivities. Far from being the least, the Sabbath is a keystone in God's spiritual creation, providing the energy and focus needed to maintain a relationship with Him. It serves as a weekly appointment with God, a time for unified instruction, contemplation, and fellowship, essential for carrying out the witness He desires from His people. Thus, the Sabbath stands as a vital commandment, crucial for spiritual growth and alignment with God's purpose.

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

Sometimes Christians fixate on past sins. But we cannot experience the joy of salvation while obsessing on past sins. Christ's blood covers sins repented of.
