Jesus Is God

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

The concept of the 'Beginning of the Creation of God' is central to understanding the eternal nature and divine origin of Jesus Christ. In the beginning, as revealed in John 1:1, the Word was with God, and the Word was God, placing Jesus into eternity alongside the Father. This beginning refers not to a point of origin for Him, but to the start of God's revelation of Himself and His purpose to mankind, encompassing the creation of the physical universe. Both the Father and the Son inhabit eternity, having no beginning of days nor end of life, existing as distinct Beings of the God-kind before any creation took place. All things were made by Him, through the Son by the Father, as stated in John 1:3. The Son, who became flesh, was the active agent in creation, stooping down to form Adam and Eve from the dust of the ground, creating the earth, the sun, and beyond. This creating-Spirit-Being, also called the Word and God, existed as God before the creation, a truth reinforced by His own testimony and the accounts of John and Paul. His preeminence over all creation is affirmed in Colossians, where He is described as possessing divinity bodily, preceding all created things, and thus being uncreated, with no time when He did not exist. In Revelation 3:14, Jesus confirms His eternal existence with the Father, emphasizing His role at the very start of God's creative work. The focus on the term 'beginning' in this context underscores His foundational position in all that was made, aligning with the consistent biblical assertion that He is uncreated God, integral to the divine plan from eternity.

The 'word of the Lord' came (appeared) to Abraham, suggesting that the Word (dabar, the Hebrew equivalent of logos) is a Being, the 'Lord God.'

The Foundation of the World

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

Jesus Christ is the only secure Foundation upon which we can build to weather storms. The Church of God is built upon Christ, the Prophets, and the apostles.
