In 31 AD, after His crucifixion, Jesus appeared to His disciples and breathed on them, declaring, Receive you the Holy Spirit. He presented it as a gift from their Father, instructing them to wait in Jerusalem to receive it. With the receiving of the Holy Spirit comes the responsibility of living in a manner that reflects a light to the world through the correct way of living. This responsibility is crucial, as it is for the sake of the elect that Jesus will cut the days short to save the world. At Pentecost, the disciples were assembled in unity when a mighty wind sound filled the house, though no air moved, and tongue-shaped flames of fire appeared above them, resting on each without heat. They were filled with the Holy Spirit, and the power of God manifested as they began to speak in unfamiliar languages, astonishing all present. The gathered multitude, devout men from every country, heard the Galileans speak in their own languages and dialects, witnessing the wonderful works of God. This marked the introduction of God's Holy Spirit to the world, now made available to mankind upon being called by God the Father. God's Holy Spirit is the power of God in action, inspiring and accomplishing feats through individuals, as seen in the courage and strength of David's mighty men. This Spirit teaches personally, shaping the will of those it guides by communicating righteous knowledge. It reminds us of Jesus' obedience, faith, and character, urging us to imitate Him. The Holy Spirit bears witness to the way Christ lived, amplifying God's laws, His love, concern for others, and the absolute truth of God's Kingdom. The Holy Spirit also convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, bringing an acute sense of guilt and awareness of sin that cannot be ignored. It reveals the necessity of righteous living under God's laws, showing that Jesus overcame satan and that sin will be condemned. Furthermore, it guides into all divine truth, setting us free from the lies and superstitions of the world, declaring God's will individually to each of us. Given as a gift to the first fruits, the Holy Spirit is a down payment of our inheritance as members of the God family. It seals us, marking us as genuine and approved by God. This gift, meant to be cherished, assists in fulfilling our calling, helping us overcome and develop godly character amidst the pulls of the world and the wiles of satan. Through the Holy Spirit, God guides His church, encouraging stability and fellowship among brethren, ensuring we resist sin and grow in obedience, love, and hope for the final transformation into Spirit beings.
