Defining Hope for the Creation

'Ready Answer' by James Beaubelle

Hope is a profound gift bestowed upon us, the children of God, amidst our broken and damaged nature. As creations subjected to frailties, we are given hope for the repair of our defects and the renewal of our bodies upon adoption and redemption. This hope extends beyond us to the entire creation, encompassing the rocks, vegetation, and animals, all yearning for restoration. Our living hope finds its anchor in Jesus Christ, who, being alive, offers us a sure foundation. Through His efforts, our hope is justified, and as our High Priest, He ensures its fulfillment. We place our complete confidence in Him, knowing that God desires to save us and possesses the power to bring us into eternal life with Him. By faith, another gift from our Creator, we trust in the truth of this hope, even when we cannot see all the details of eternal life. Patience must have its place in our lives to prevent discouragement and the potential loss of so great a gift. Our hope remains strong when solidly based on the works and love of Jesus Christ, who suffered for us and now intercedes on our behalf at the right hand of God the Father. This hope, intertwined with faith, motivates us toward right actions and supports our vision of life eternal in the Kingdom of God. As a desire placed in us by God, this hope focuses not on ourselves but on Jesus Christ and His work, becoming a genuine virtue that inspires good works and love for others. Until the day the whole earth is filled with the knowledge of God, we must remain mindful of our need for Him and the abiding hope He provides through the good works of Jesus Christ, making us heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Hope in a Turbulent World

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)

Greek and Roman myths have shaped the world view of Western culture, including our attitude toward hope, a concept which is often abused and distorted.

Elements of Motivation (Part Three)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

In the familiar triumvirate (faith, hope, and love), faith serves as the foundation, love serves as the goal, and hope serves as the great motivator.
