The prophecies of Zephaniah 3, Ezekiel 36, and Jeremiah 7 align with Revelation 7 and 14 in indicating that a humbled remnant of Israel will repent and turn to God, much like in the Parable of the Prodigal Son. Because the characteristics of these people mirror the attributes of the Israel of God, we have assumed that the 144,000 refer to the church. But, the convergence of imagery of Revelation 7, Revelation 14 and various Old Testament prophecies regarding the restoration of Israel suggests that this sealing may apply to a latter harvest of repentant, physical Israelites. If this scenario is accurate, then the Called-out ones in the earlier harvest dare not show resentment and jealousy as did the older brother in the Parable of the Prodigal Son. That a captive people, living in circumstances not unlike those of the prodigal son, receive grace from God should be cause for the Children of Light to rejoice along with their Father. The blessing of the remnant takes nothing away from God's people, who, like the older brother in the parable, are primed to inherit all things. It is only by God's grace that any of us can ever inherit the promises of entry into God's family.
