• Ephesians 2:4-10
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

  • Romans 9:15-18
For He says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion." So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, 'For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.' Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.

  • Titus 2:11-14
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

  • 1 Corinthians 1:26-29
For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.

  • Genesis 6:8
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

  • Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

  • Romans 4:3-5
For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,

Living by Faith: God's Grace (Part Four)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)

Grace is God's freely given, unearned, continuous empowerment flowing from the Father and Jesus Christ to those He is shaping into His image, and without it no one would be saved. Grace is not a thing dispensed but the expression of God's generous character, personified in Christ, who is Savior and source of "grace for grace" …

Living by Faith: God's Grace (Part Three)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)

Salvation is God's unmerited gift from beginning to end. He owes sinners only death, yet gives grace freely because generosity is His nature, and this undercuts pride and any sense of entitlement. Grace ( charis ) carries the sense of empowerment, and it corresponds to the Old Testament chesed , God's faithful covenant love. In …

Living by Faith: God's Grace (Part Two)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)

Against the backdrop of God's justice, salvation is unmerited grace from beginning to end. Because of sin, all God owes anyone is death, so He is fully justified in destroying us, as He did Nadab, Abihu, and Uzza. At calling, believers were "dead in trespasses and sins" (Ephesians 2:1), which baptism symbolizes. God gives grace …

Living By Faith and God's Grace

'Personal' from John W. Ritenbaugh

Salvation by grace through faith stands as the cornerstone of God's purpose for us. Without grace, there would be no salvation, no calling, no justification, no Holy Spirit given, and no sanctification. Grace is indispensable, for without it, there would be no creation itself. In the face of our disobedience, God's grace emerges …

Faith Without Works

'Ready Answer' by Staff

Salvation is a gift of God, received by grace through faith, and cannot be earned by charitable works or by obedience to God's law. Ephesians 2:8-9 says that works do not save us, but grace and faith do, so that no one may boast. This does not mean works are unnecessary. Obedience is a condition we must meet before God gives His …

Sovereignty, Election, and Grace (Part Five)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

Salvation by grace through faith stands as a foundational truth in the journey toward the Kingdom of God. It is clearly declared in Ephesians 2:8-10 that by grace we are saved through faith, and this faith is not of ourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. We are His workmanship, created in …

Faith and the Christian Fight (Part Two)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

Salvation by grace through faith is a divine gift, not a product of human effort or merit. God, in His sovereign will, initiates this process by placing an urge within us to seek Him, as no one can come to Jesus Christ unless the Father draws them. This saving faith is not generated by human reason or experience but is a …

The Covenants, Grace, and Law (Part Twenty-Nine)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

Salvation by grace through faith begins with the recognition that justification, the imputing of righteousness apart from the deeds of the law, occurs solely through faith in the blood of Jesus Christ as the propitiation for sins. This legal declaration of freedom from guilt aligns a person with God's standard and grants initial …
