Random and negative thoughts, daydreaming and zoning out are all symptoms of a person's failure to discipline his mind. Such thoughts become distractions which imperil our ability to make sound decisions. In bringing their minds under control, God's called-out ones have the advantage of access to the power of His Holy Spirit. The apostle Paul admonishes us to bring every thought into the captivity of Christ. Unlike Satan, who continually attempts to flood our minds with negative thoughts, God never inspires negative thoughts. God enables His people to focus on His thoughts by listening to sermons and reading His Word, both of which condition them to tune into God as He speaks to them, imparting His thoughts just when they need them most. We have the responsibility to hear God's still, small voice and to act upon His thoughts, thereby shunning the deceitful input constantly coming from Satan. Doing this will help God's people habitually plug God into their decision-making process. Joshua 1:8-9 promises that focusing on God's thoughts will ensure "good success." Proverbs 16:3 promises that, if one commits his works to God, his thoughts will become focused. Exerting effort to develop the skill of listening to God as He imparts His thoughts to our spirit will produce a tranquil and stable mind.
