Recently Fox Business Network reported that Twitter had launched a new service which would warn users that the on-line conversation might lead to disagreements. God's people could profit from such a warning device as they carelessly are led into vituperative exchanges which are better avoided. Sadly, from time to time, because our carnal hearts are enmity against God, we allow things that tend to defile out of our mouths. Instead of cultivating the fruits of God's Holy Spirit, the works of the flesh—hatred, jealousy, envy, outbursts of wrath emerge as deadly weeds attempting to choke out the precious produce of God's Holy Spirit. As God's chosen saints, we must not let our keyboard or mouth defile us. Godly conversation includes stifling the urge to win the argument at all costs, even when we know we are 100% correct. Being right is far less important than doing right, realizing that the "wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace" (James 3:17-18). By knowing what we are capable of producing, cultivating the works of the flesh, we can protect ourselves against the evil pulls of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21) which have the capability of keeping us out of God's Kingdom.
