Through the scriptures, our adversary Satan the devil has been described alternately as a serpent, dragon, roaring lion (I Peter 5:8), and the dreaded leviathan, all deadly predators. In North America, one could also identify the black bear, grizzly bear, and polar bear, equally as deadly as the previously named, dangerous because of their immense size and speed, having lost their fear of humans. "In the woods" or out in pristine nature, too many people project safety and serenity, prompting them to take no defense with them. A spiritual parallel can be drawn as we recognize that the whole armor of God includes a sword (symbolizing the Bible) which is an offensive weapon, but utterly useless if we have not mastered its contents and are ready to use it. Satan can detect when we are flagging spiritually, letting down on our calling, leading him to overwhelm us with doubts and discouragement. As God's called-out saints, we must pick up the sword after we have stumbled and continue the fight.
