God Will Understand

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

You've Examined Yourself—Now What?

Article by Pat Higgins

Jesus Christ demonstrated the power of God's Word as a weapon against temptation, using it to counter Satan's deceit with His Father's truth. He treated His Father's Word as the highest authority, showing us how to respond when tempted by replacing wrong thoughts with divine truth. If the sinless Son of God relied on His Father's Word to defeat temptation, we must follow His example to overcome our own struggles. God's Word is sharper than a two-edged sword, piercing through excuses and revealing the true intent of our hearts. When we memorize and recall Scripture, such as in moments of personal weakness, it brings us before the presence of the living God, demanding obedience with no middle ground. Hebrews 10:31 emphasizes this power, stating it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. By storing His Word in our minds, we arm ourselves to measure every thought against His truth and make choices aligned with His will. However, merely memorizing Scripture is not enough; we must actively use it as our weapon against temptation. Failing to recall and apply God's Word opens the door to excuses and disobedience, allowing us to push His truth aside when obedience feels costly. God's Word, when dwelled upon richly as urged in Colossians 3:16, guides our thinking and choices, ensuring our steps do not slide, as Psalm 37:31 promises. Through consistent practice, we learn to think according to His Word, ready to act on it immediately when temptation arises. Jesus Christ defeated Satan by answering with His Father's Word, and we must do the same daily, not just in preparation for Passover. Satan seeks every opportunity to weaken our trust in God, targeting our vulnerabilities. If we are not strengthening our weak points with God's Word, we remain exposed to his attacks. By storing and using His Word in our minds, we choose His way over our own, preparing ourselves for every challenge that comes.
