description: (hide) The context for the oft-misquoted aphorism "money is the root of all evil" is a warning from the apostle Paul to ministers who wish to enrich themselves using the pretext of God's Word, stating that the "love of money is a root of all evil." Twisting scripture with the intent of becoming wealthy is evil. God views money and wealth as neutral and He found no problem with blessing Abraham, David, and Joanna, whose husband was second in command to Herod. Money is never really the problem, but the lust for it is. As we calculate our offerings, we must consider the intangible blessings which are worth infinitely more than physical possessions. It is far more profitable to love God than money.
