description: (hide) Because Almighty God had a hand in the multitude of languages we speak, He is not limited by language. Before the Tower of Babel, the entire world had only one language. Adam and Noah spoke the same language. Sadly, the intent of the people in building the Tower of Babel was to defy God's command to spread throughout the earth, exalting rebellion and pride, attempting to take over the throne of God, as had Satan. The people were of one mind but in total rebellion to God. On the Day of Pentecost, God performed a miracle in which understanding God's purpose was communicated through hearing and speaking, bringing about a unity among multitudes of diverse languages. The events at Babel and the events at Pentecost differentiate God's way and man's way. Through the giving of His Holy Spirit, God is enabling those who worship Him to become like Him, to develop His character instead of exercising divisive carnal nature which separates and alienates them from God.
