description: (hide) We are profoundly aware of the pervasive evil influence of the world around us, symbolically called Babylon, a system in which we must be vigilant, resisting its corrupting and corroding effects. During episodes of chaos or tragedy, we are forced to admit that sin and carnal human nature dominate society and culture. Leaven, the metaphor often used to represent sin, false teaching, or harmful influences, even in tiny, microscopic amounts, can adversely affect the whole. Both the Old and New Testaments illustrate that sin is subtle, persuasive, and deeply rooted, prompting Almighty God to call His saints to come out of Babylon, refusing to take part in its sins. We, through the practice of removing physical leaven during the Feast of Unleavened Bread, are instructed to spiritually remove sin from our lives, replacing it with the unleavened bread of Christ, constituting sincerity, truth, and righteousness, replacing pride and arrogance with humility. We must be aware of the power of influence, both negative and positive, intentionally allowing God's Spirit to shape us, transforming us into the image of Our Lord and Savior, awaiting the eventual fall and termination of Babylon when Christ returns.
