Sermonette: Turning the Hearts of the Fathers to the Children
#FT25-05s
James C. Stoertz
Given 11-Oct-25; 15 minutes
We must restore childlike humility as well as strong family bonds, especially the role of fathers. The troubling rise in fatherless homes and its tragic long-term consequences and the welfare of children is a stark contrast from Jesus' teaching that elevate children as models of humility, trust, and openness, traits necessary for entering God's kingdom. We must imitate the best qualities of children, reengaging in nurturing relationships between fathers and their children. Warning against spiritual unresponsiveness, Jesus narrates a parable of ignored children in the marketplace, reminding us that God's parental love is persistent, tender, and often unreciprocated. Thankfully, a surprising cultural shift has occurred among Gen Z men, who now view having children as a key measure of personal success, signaling a possible turning of hearts, anticipating the prophecy of John the prophecy fulfilled by John the Baptist, preparing a people ready for the Lord. Ultimately, this message urges self-examination, prayer for parents, and a renewed commitment to love, humility, and godly imitation, beginning with the smallest among us.
