In the middle of the holiday season, we must be sure to not copy the worldly sin of self-indulgence. Even though Christmas is supposed to demonstrate the value of giving, the over-satisfying of one's own carnal urges is often the outcome. Looking at several definitions of self-indulgence, we see that it refers mainly to excessive pleasure, particularly without God's righteousness (biblehub.com) to guide it. Looking at several Biblical examples, such as seen with Samson, Satan, and Solomon, they demonstrate that those figures let their urges get out of hand resulting in ruin for themselves—through the death of Samson and the loss of all enjoyment for Solomon. We see how the worldly strains of self-indulgence can infect both the Christians who tries to defend Christmas as they sincerely think it is what God wants, and the LGBT movements who try to put their own spin on the holiday. We should look to see how it affects ourselves and not let our own desires get out of control. Some verses that can help us with this sin are Galatians 3:2 and Philippians 2:3. While it is good to have the things that God has given us, our focus must always be on the things and goals above.
