Forgiveness is not just a good idea for our own psychological health, but it is a command of God. Focusing on wisdom received from his mother, the speaker gives advice for how to move on with our focus on God instead of focusing on the wrong done to us. For those of us trying to follow God, we are advised to enact forgiveness in our minds as soon as possible, especially when a person immediately comes to apologize. Holding onto our resentment can lead to a grudge, and that shows that we value our grudge over our brethren and the word of God. Vengeance can result from holding onto a grudge for too long; Leviticus 19:18 orders us to neither nurse the wrong done to us in our mind or to progress to the actual act of vengeance. Let us observe the thoughts that lead to sin and then break the chain. Forgiving quickly, with love and humility, breaks this destructive progression before it can take root and grow into something sinful.
