In Luke 22:37, Jesus seems to encourage his disciples to take up weapons. His response "it is enough" in verse 38 seems to indicate a mild rebuke regarding trusting in weapons. Jesus allowed the two swords for twelve men to enable the prophecy in Isaiah 53:12 to be fulfilled. The official stance on Christians bearing arms is encapsulated in Christ's words, "for they that take up the sword shall perish by the sword" (Matthew 26:52). Our weapons are spiritual.
