Is the Kingdom of God Within You?
'Ready Answer' by Richard T. RitenbaughThe Kingdom of God, as addressed by Jesus Christ, carries a profound significance that challenges common misunderstandings. When questioned by the Pharisees about when the Kingdom of God would come, He responded, "For indeed, the kingdom of God is among you." This statement, often mistranslated as "within you," more accurately means "in the midst of you" or "among you," as understood from the Greek term "entos" used with a plural noun. Addressing a crowd of Pharisees, His bitter enemies, He could not have meant that the Kingdom resided inside them. Instead, He, as the King and chief representative of God's Kingdom, declared that the Kingdom was present among them through His very presence. Further clarifying this, Jesus, as the living King of the Kingdom of God, embodied its essence, much like a monarch represents the state. He affirmed His kingship to Pilate, stating, "You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth." Thus, in telling the Pharisees that the Kingdom of God was among them, He essentially conveyed that He Himself was the embodiment of that Kingdom in their midst. Similarly, in another instance, He told the Pharisees, "But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you," indicating that His miraculous works testified to His role as the Kingdom's representative among them. Additionally, when sending out the seventy disciples to preach, He instructed them to say, "The kingdom of God has come near to you," referring not to physical proximity but to the nearness in time of the Kingdom's establishment. His broader teaching to His disciples about the Kingdom emphasized its future literal establishment at His second coming, a time marked by undeniable signs and conditions, reinforcing that the Kingdom among them was tied to His presence and the imminent reality of His return to set up a real, tangible government on earth.
Thy Kingdom Come! (Part One)
'Prophecy Watch' by StaffThe Kingdom of God carries a profound significance, encompassing both a historic, even prehistoric, aspect and a present reality. It was inherent within the human Jesus through the indwelling of an unlimited portion of the Holy Spirit, and it remains present among His brothers and sisters through a smaller portion, an earnest or down payment of that same Spirit. The question of whether Jesus meant the Kingdom is within you or among you does not diminish its reality; it exists as a present-tense aspect for God's human children, intertwined with past preparations and future promises. This Kingdom did not originate with the conception or birth of the human Jesus but was planned and prepared by God the Father and the Logos from the foundation of the world. Jesus Himself declares in Matthew 25:34 that the Kingdom was prepared for the blessed from that ancient beginning, inviting them to inherit it. Similarly, Hebrews 4:3 confirms that the works of this Kingdom were finished from the foundation of the world, highlighting the eternal scope of God's plan. As heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, we are promised an inheritance of this Kingdom, a promise underscored by James 2:5, where God has chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the Kingdom He promised to those who love Him. This inheritance, though partially received now as an earnest of the Holy Spirit, awaits its full realization in the future, secured by God's unbreakable oath as stated in Hebrews 6:17. Through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we are connected to the riches of God the Father, chosen before the foundation of the world to receive every spiritual blessing in Christ, as affirmed in Ephesians 1:3-4.
