The Seven Churches (Part Seven): Sardis
Bible Study by Richard T. RitenbaughThe Church of God, Seventh Day, which Herbert Armstrong affiliated with early in his ministry, has been considered in relation to the Sardis era described in Christ's letter. Herbert Armstrong observed that while this church understood most basic doctrines correctly, it lacked the vitality of preaching the gospel, leading him to judge it as dead, not alive with faithful, godly activity. Although it may reflect a Sardis approach, neither its official name nor reputation indicates life, prompting a search for a more significant fulfillment of Christ's words elsewhere within the broader church of God. Somewhere among these churches are people who, by name or reputation, appear to be living, yet whom Christ judges as essentially spiritually dead, save for a few names.
