The claim that the universe suddenly came into existence billions of years ago through a massive explosion of extremely dense matter, and that life then arose and differentiated into countless species over vast ages, is a preposterous fairytale. It glosses over the question of where that first matter came from, and when stated plainly it is not plausible. Men invented it for one reason: to leave God out of the picture. In truth, God created everything in six days, and the earth's perfect fitness for life, with its right ingredients, crust, temperature, moon, star, core, and neighbors like Jupiter, points to a Supreme Intelligence rather than chance. Secular explanations of this fine-tuning still conclude that it all happened by chance, which only makes one shake one's head. Romans 1:18-23 explains why: men suppress the truth in unrighteousness, though God's invisible attributes, His eternal power and Godhead, are clearly seen in the things He has made, so they are without excuse. Humans are not rational; their thoughts become futile and their foolish hearts darkened, so they reach foolish conclusions that exclude the Creator. Once God is rejected, people will believe in anything but Him, even though creation itself cries out for a Creator of unlimited intelligence, almighty power, and righteous character.

The big bang theory is modern sorcery, a lie that deceives. Sorcery (pharmakeia) is defined by Scripture as the worldwide poisoning of minds through deception, Satan's tool for tricking the nations, and it reaches far beyond drugs. Lies that spread to the ends of the earth and harm the nations fit this definition, and the big bang belongs among them. It is a puff of smoke after which the universe simply is: something out of nothing, like pulling a rabbit out of a hat, without even a magician waving a wand. It just happened one day out of nowhere. Like evolution, it denies the real science of cause and effect, and many people earn their living teaching and advancing such lies. Those who practice and love a lie, as the catalogs of Revelation 21:8 and 22:15 warn, face the Lake of Fire, the second death.

The prevailing scientific account of the sun's origin, that dust and gas from exploded stars were pressed together by waves of energy, collapsed under gravity, spun into a protostar, and over 50 million years ignited hydrogen fusion, is a fine theory but leaves a great deal unexplained. Where did the gas, dust, hydrogen, helium, and remnants of earlier stars come from? Energy waves, gravity, and fusion are invoked, and then, magically, the sun appears at just the right distance from the earth to allow life. All the brains in the world have not determined how old the sun is or how it got there, and no one can explain why its corona is hundreds of times hotter than its surface. However it happened, God did it. The origin of the sun and the universe is already answered in the Book: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." At some time in the far distant past God created the universe, and when the earth was formless, empty, and dark, He said, "Let there be light." How He did this is not told.

Humanists claim that all of life came into existence slowly through what they call resident forces, and they hold that power and matter existed even before the Big Bang. Their belief is a form of disbelief in the Creator, and it is deeply flawed. They never seriously ask how those resident forces and the material they worked upon came to be, and they give no truly knowledgeable or scientific reasons for assuming these things simply happened to be here.

The universe shows design at every level, so it did not arise from blind chance, and the Big Bang idea fits poorly with what astronomers observe. Evolutionists are driven to chance explanations by their reluctance to accept a Creator who designed all things and is working out a purpose. If everything exploded outward from a central point and was then captured by the gravity of larger bodies, it would be logical for everything to be caught going in the same direction. Yet one of Saturn's nine moons orbits counterclockwise while the other eight go the opposite way, and four of Jupiter's moons also move against the rest. These oddities reflect a wisdom in God's design that is not yet understood. Astronomers' ongoing calculations are also leading them to conclude that the mass of the whole creation is perfectly in balance, far more precisely than an automobile tire must be balanced. Because the Lord by wisdom founded the earth and the entire universe, the evidence of design supports confidence that His Word was put together with the same wisdom.
