A Thoughtful Offering

Sermonette by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

Have you ever been driving down a road, perhaps on a long trip or your commute home, and found your mind wandering, perhaps daydreaming or following a thought prompted by the radio? Suddenly, you come to yourself and realize you have no recollection of the past few miles traveled. In such moments, we snap to attention, quickly look around to ensure everything is safe, and thank God for His mercy that we were not harmed while lost in thought. We all experience these lapses of thought from time to time, a human tendency to lose focus. However, the concern lies not in occasional daydreams but in the habits of thoughtlessness, lack of attention, and carelessness that our frail human condition and this world make so easy to develop. As Christians, we must be thoughtful, attentive, and careful, for there is no time in a believer's life for letting the mind wander. Our enemy seeks to exploit those moments of wandering focus and concentration, making it essential to always think about God's way and how to apply it.
