No Children, No Hope For the Future
Commentary by Martin G. CollinsEurope's childless leaders lack any personal stake in the continent's future and therefore promote migration as a substitute for policies that would encourage families and children. This detachment from parenthood severs emotional ties to the next generation and reflects a self-indulgent mindset that views children as an unwelcome interference. In contrast the Bible presents children as a direct blessing from God that restores hope and continuity. Originally the fruitfulness of Eden displayed the sanctity of life as God created it, but sin introduced the curse of barrenness and painful childbearing, turning fertile women and fruitful land into signs of divine favor while desolate land and childless women became emblems of judgment. The loss of children therefore functions as a universal consequence for societies marked by pride, narcissism, and the silencing of conscience. Scripture counters this pattern by declaring that children are a heritage from the Lord and the fruit of the womb a reward to those who fear Him. The same passage that sets life and death before the people urges them to choose life so that both they and their descendants may live, thereby linking the blessing of children to obedience and to the promise that God Himself is their life and the length of their days.
