Salt
Article by Mike FordSalt serves as a powerful metaphor in the life of a believer, reflecting essential spiritual qualities. As living sacrifices, we must be salted, embodying traits that align with God's expectations. Salt preserves, symbolizing durability, permanence, and purity. Just as it was used to ratify covenants, signifying incorruptibility, we are to live without spot or blemish, maintaining an ongoing, perpetual sacrifice through obedience, supported by God's unchanging nature. Salt also seasons, enhancing flavor and making things palatable. Christ instructs us to have salt in ourselves and to have peace with one another, as seen in His words that every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. Our speech must be gracious, seasoned with salt, reflecting divine influence and ensuring our words are savory, especially within our family, both physical and spiritual. As we live before God's altar, our actions and conversations should be fitting for dining with Christ. Finally, a little salt goes a long way, illustrating the significant impact of even a small amount. Christ declares believers to be the salt of the earth, warning that if we lose our flavor, we become worthless and risk being cast out. Though God's people are few, their influence is vast, and we must retain our savor to avoid being trampled underfoot. Thus, as living sacrifices, we strive for purity, ensure our lives are properly seasoned, and maintain our flavor to be among God's firstfruits.
