Hope and Faith

Sermon by Clyde Finklea

Hopelessness is the worst feeling a person can experience, as it leaves one without any expectation of help or improvement. Yet, for those in Christ, hopelessness is never a reality, even amidst fear, loneliness, or desperation. Hope, in the biblical sense, is not a mere wish or unsure optimism, but a strong and confident expectation, a certainty rooted in God's promises. Faith serves as the support of this hope, acting as the foundation that upholds it. Hope resides in the heart and mind, trusting in God's Word, believing that He is building a future for us, and that Jesus our Lord will return to gather us in resurrection to rule with Him in His Kingdom. Faith, as the evidence of this hope, manifests in our actions and the way we live our lives. Biblical hope does not lead to escapism or idleness but propels us into action, changing how we live, what we value, and how we use our talents, time, and resources. Our hope, grounded in God as the source of all true expectation, works hand-in-hand with faith, with hope being the inner belief in God's promises and faith being the outward action that demonstrates our trust in Him.
