Stalked by Satan

'Ready Answer' by Mike Ford

The apostle Peter warns us to be sober and vigilant because our adversary, the devil, walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Peter compares him to a lion because, like these great hunters, he operates under cover of darkness, using deception and camouflage to remain invisible to his prey. With acute senses and night vision far sharper than ours, he patiently stalks, seeing us when we are unaware of his presence. Like lions who hunt within a territory and target the weak, the old, or stragglers, he and his demons prey on God's people, seeking those who are weary or separated from the herd. Once he attacks, he inflicts great pain, pinning down and wounding his victims before going for the kill, prolonging their suffering. Yet, even in his grasp, we can call out for help, for the LORD is near to all who call upon Him, hearing their cry and saving them. Thinking of him as a lion, quietly and invisibly stalking, reminds us to stay alert, avoiding isolation where he can leap out to maul us.
