Why Is Christ, the Son, Called 'the Everlasting Father' (Isaiah 9:6)?

Bible Questions & Answers

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the promised Son of God, bearing the title Everlasting Father among others. The God of the Old Testament, identified as Christ, fulfilled many roles toward Israel, including that of their Father, claiming this title through redeeming them from slavery in Egypt, creating them, and founding them as a nation. In Jeremiah 31:9, He declares that He will be a Father to Israel in the future, leading them in a straight way, with Ephraim as His firstborn, establishing a special relationship that will endure throughout eternity as the Everlasting Father.
