Hamas' October 7 Attack

Sermon by David C. Grabbe

Hamas' October 7 attack fits into a biblical pattern of God's people turning from Him, causing God to hide His face and allow incredible suffering.

The Vulgar State of America

'WorldWatch' by Joseph B. Baity

The over-the-top vulgarity of Rap and Hip Hop now confronts the popular music industry, with much less struggle and far more acceptance throughout the industry, media, and buying public. The music available for easy purchase and streaming by most anyone is depressingly repulsive, promoting degenerate and debased sexual behavior, drug use, and violence, while making celebrities out of shallow-minded women, gangsters, and thugs. Each year, millions of American and international viewers eagerly watch the National Football League's Super Bowl halftime show, often seen as a barometer of American culture. This year, the NFL chose an infamous collection of Rap and Hip Hop artists to perform a tribute to these repugnant genres, subjecting the massive audience, including young children, to a glorification of Hip Hop culture awash with hypersexuality, overt drug use, gang violence, and a general assault on civil society. Despite the profane content, the show received nearly unanimous acclaim from the media, politicians, cultural observers, and the viewing audience, while the few conservative spokespersons who criticized it were immediately shouted down, vilified, and shamed on all forms of media.

Friends

Sermonette by Craig Sablich

God's people should not waste their time on entertainments dedicated to spreading Satan's lies, but rather turn their attention to pure and wholesome things.

Moral Sympathy and Spiritual Confusion

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

God never intended for music to be perverted into its present worldly form. He intended music to be true, inspiring, thankful, joyous, positive, and good in every way. Yet, far too many of today's songs advocate obscenities, premarital and illicit sex, sexual perversion, drugs, the occult, and even revolution. It is well substantiated that many messages in today's perverted music, pumped into the heads of children and adults, often lead to horrible crimes, confused morals, and consequent sexually transmitted diseases. The music of a society consistently reflects and represents the society that nourishes it, as well as the changes within that society. Perverted music is easily thrown upon us and accepted, creating a cycle that feeds on itself. A song is released, appealing to human nature and reflecting a distorted way of life many are living. People buy the music, creating a demand for more, driven by the greed of those in the business who love the sound of coins and bills. Behind this wave of sensual music lies the influence of satan, who, until Jesus Christ comes to replace him, is allowed to rule, influence, and blind this world. As the prince of the power of the air, he broadcasts malicious moods and attitudes into human minds, particularly stirring up lusts and desires of the flesh. There can be no doubt that the current deluge of songs emphasizing self-gratification, promiscuous sex, rebellion, and acceptance of evil not only has his approval but his active backing. Satanic themes are often unhidden in music, with symbols of the occult and satan worship appearing on album covers and in advertisements. The powerful impact of music on society is evident in how it motivates listeners to act, often inspiring bad actions through bad music. Lyrics and characteristic sounds in styles like punk and rap convey scorn, resentment, and crude physical threat, reinforcing perverse messages even without words. The act of listening to such music invites moral sympathy, allowing the listener to share the storyteller's perspective, which can rub off over time and affirm corrupt values. Young people, often neglected by parents, turn to morally bankrupt music as a primary source of moral instruction, lured by a cocktail of images, lyrics, and sounds into identifying with destructive behaviors. This is compounded by musicians promoting spiritual counterfeits and false doctrines alongside immorality, filling a moral vacuum among teens who do not attend church regularly. Even among those exposed to religious teachings, many listen to music that wars against godly values, spending more time with secular messages than spiritual ones. Parents must teach discernment to counteract the pervasive influence of perverted music, recognizing entertainment as a force to be reckoned with and applying godly principles. The challenge of living with popular culture is significant, requiring a balance between permissiveness and overly strict approaches, ensuring children understand why certain music is unacceptable. God's command is clear: we must diligently guard what enters our minds and the minds of our children, withdrawing from influences that promote lies and perversion through music.
