The Role of Women

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

Women share the image of God at creation and possess the same spiritual essence as men along with equal dignity. Daughters inherit property when no sons are available. The Bible portrays God with qualities of a nurse and a mother to emphasize reliability and compassion. Eve was created as a companion and helper comparable to Adam so that man and woman complement each other. Prophets challenged cultural injustices yet did not regard patriarchy as oppressive. Deborah judged Israel to shame fearful men rather than to establish an alternative norm. Rule by women is presented as judgment on a disobedient nation. Jesus Christ conversed with a Samaritan woman and revealed doctrine to her thereby bestowing dignity. He entrusted women as the first witnesses to His resurrection. Jesus confirmed male leadership by appointing only male apostles because that pattern was established from the beginning. Wives submit to husbands as the church submits to Christ while husbands love wives as Christ loved the church. Godly women raise righteous leaders and manage households with skill equal to any executive role. The virtuous wife demonstrates mental energy strength initiative and wisdom. Men and women receive identical opportunities for character development and qualify for the same rewards in the Kingdom of God.

A Woman's World

'Prophecy Watch' by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

Conventional wisdom holds that men hold all advantages and power while women receive less respect even in positions of prestige. The feminist movement has advanced women past equality into dominance. Isaiah 3:12 states that women rule over the people because the people have brought evil upon themselves. Men abdicate leadership roles and thus women and children assume them. God appointed men to lead and provide while women serve as partners and homemakers. These roles produce harmonious results and prepare people for the Kingdom of God. Feminism traces its roots to Mother Eve who took the lead in sin. Her curse produced the subjugation of women. Until the Enlightenment women held few rights. Fathers sold daughters into slavery or marriage. Wives existed to provide pleasure sons and household service. Many societies required veils and chaperones. Israelite women possessed rights of inheritance and could own land and run businesses. Deborah judged Israel and brought peace. Modern feminism began in England with Mary Wollstonecraft who wrote A Vindication of the Rights of Women to demand political educational and work freedoms for women. The movement later emphasized suffrage. Simone de Beauvoir published Le Deuxième Sexe which argued that liberating women liberates men. Betty Friedan published The Feminine Mystique to attack domesticity and dependence. Women entered the labor force in large numbers. The National Organization for Women formed to fight for contract property labor contraception and abortion rights. The Roe v. Wade decision treated abortion as a choice and advanced feminism. Women should receive equal rights under the law to buy and sell property run businesses make contracts pursue education and hold jobs at equal pay. Spiritually men and women hold equal potential as heirs of the grace of life. Isaiah 3:16-26 and Amos 4:1-3 predict captivity and humiliation for women who oppress the poor and vaunt power. Radical feminism will continue until Christ returns to establish true cooperation between men and women.

The First Prophecy (Part Two)

'Prophecy Watch' by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

The curse on the woman causes her to desire to overcome her husband, leading him to rule over her by force. This results in women being treated as property throughout history until the advent of women's rights movements. In many cultures men bought and sold women like cattle. Only where true Christianity flourishes is there any real easing of this curse.

Genesis 3:16: Consequences for Eve

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

Spiritually, male and female have equal potential. Rights and legalities are far less important than spiritual development, subject to God-ordained gender roles.

The Perfect Wife

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

Biblically ordained marriage roles are at odds or in conflict with cultural expectations, especially the influences of radical feminism and postmodernism.

Flag of Our Father

Sermon by Mark Schindler

The curse pronounced upon the woman in Genesis 3:16 declares that her desire will be to gain the upper hand over her husband, yet because she is the weaker vessel he will rule over her by force if necessary. This judgment arose directly from the first act of human disobedience when Adam and Eve covered their God-given physical differences with fig leaves, thereby perverting those differences from instruments of unity into sources of selfish division. The resulting pattern of conflict has shaped all human relationships, most prominently marriage, as women seek to overcome and men respond with domination. History records that until the women's rights movements women were treated as property, bought and sold, and granted little freedom or respect. The progressive movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, including the suffragettes and reformers such as Anna Reeves Jarvis, demanded equal rights and political power. These efforts influenced the establishment of Father's Day and Mother's Day and promoted the modern ideal of co-parenting, shifting away from rigid patriarchal roles. Such demands illustrate the self-inflicted consequences of relying on human knowledge rather than the revealed wisdom of God's Word. Only where true Christianity flourishes does genuine relief from this curse appear. Ephesians 5 instructs wives to submit rather than contend and husbands to love rather than dominate, thereby decreasing the curse's effects and restoring the unity originally intended in creation. This approach aligns every decision with the truth under God's banner, enabling the self-sacrifice that overcomes the division introduced at the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and points toward the lasting peace found only through Jesus Christ.

Sandcastle Virtues

Modern Israel still worships Astarte, now known as "mother earth," and crusades on behalf of fornication and all forms of sexual perversion.
