Halloween, though often dismissed as harmless fun, is fundamentally a glorification of evil, since its central figure—recognized or not—is Satan the Devil, called the ruler of this world and the deceiver of the whole world. Because this world misunderstands life, it likewise misunderstands death, embracing a confused mixture of pagan philosophies regarding heaven, hell, purgatory, and the immortality of the soul, all of which the Bible refutes. This deception obscures the true purpose of God's creation: God and the Word made mankind in their own image to become part of the divine Family, with believers becoming sons of God through faith in Christ. Understanding this purpose reveals why evil is so serious—it is the direct opposite of the eternal life that comes from knowing the Father and the Son. From the beginning, mankind was given a choice between life and the knowledge of good and evil, and chose wrongly, a pattern reflected in human history ever since. Evil is not merely unpleasant, like a natural disaster, but is malignant—purposefully injurious and intentionally unkind, described as that which does harm to life or liveliness. Because of this, Christians are called to have nothing to do with evil, since the face of the LORD is against those who practice it, and believers are instructed to abstain from every form of evil, everything opposed to life, especially eternal life. Halloween's rituals, ancient and modern, embody trickery, sorcery, spiritism, and the dark ways of the evil one, making it incompatible with participation at the Lord's table, since one cannot partake of both the Lord's table and the table of demons. As with Adam, individuals must choose between life and evil, for the two are mutually exclusive, and this choice will ultimately determine one's place in the future resurrection, dividing humanity according to what was chosen during their lives. While avoiding Halloween's external evils is relatively simple, the greater struggle lies in confronting the evil that resides within—the evil promoted by Satan since the Garden of Eden, which manifests in cutting words, deception, manipulation, and self-centered harm to others. This internal evil seems limited only by the length of one's life, yet those in whom God dwells possess the means to overcome evil with good through their relationship with God. True eternal life is not simply unending existence but life free from evil—life of the highest quality, the kind of life God Himself lived as a human being. By emulating the Life-giver, believers choose life and reject evil, standing in direct opposition to the spirit epitomized by celebrations like Halloween.
