Mightier Than the Sword (Part One)

Commentary by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)

An apostate is a person who once stood for and with a certain belief or group but now stands away from and against it. In biblical history, Adam and Eve were the first apostates when they sinned, relinquishing their stand for God and choosing to stand with Satan. In II Timothy 4:10, Paul notes that Demas, his former companion, apostatized by forsaking him due to his love for the present world. In I John 2:19, John refers to those who went out from us but were not of us, indicating their apostasy. Apostasy from various forms of this world's versions of Christianity has been significant, especially in the past 50 years. In Britain, regular church attendance has declined from 60% to 6% over the past 100 years, while in America, it has dropped from around 60% to about 30% in the past 40 years. Apostasy continues to advance. The men whose teachings have led people into greater spiritual apostasies were themselves apostates from this world's false Christianity. These individuals, born into Catholic, Protestant, or Jewish families, gradually departed in thought and conduct from their familial and educational teachings, contributing to the spirit of the times we live in today.

Foam

Sermonette by Ronny H. Graham

In Scripture, foam is usually accompanied by a state of agitation, as in hurricanes, angry waves of the sea, nations being torn asunder, or demonic influence.

Conspiracy Theory (Part Nineteen)

Commentary by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)

The nephilim were apostates from what people in the Western world would call the true religion. These very influential teaching nephilim rose from Christian roots, with most born into and nurtured in families that practiced some form of the Christian religion. They did not come from Hinduism, Shintoism, or any other exotic, foreign source, but from within the dominant religions of the Western world. Their rise reminds one of Jude's warning about certain men who have crept in unnoticed, who turn the grace of God into lewdness and deny the Lord.

No One Else Matters (Part Two)

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

The Israelites' actions throughout their history reveal their inconsistency, hypocrisy, confusion, rebellion, and stubbornness. They did not have God's Spirit, which resulted in their minds being carnal and hostile to God, rejecting His law. They were unable to continue in the covenant because they lacked the spiritual capacity to understand and follow God's way of life.

Unity and Division (Part One)

CGG Weekly by David C. Grabbe

Even though God desires brethren to dwell in peace and unity, at times HE ordains and causes disruption and division. How do we explain this apparent paradox?

Shrugging Off Scoffers (Part One)

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

Peter warns of scoffers in the church, apostate tares, devoid of God's spirit, ridiculing the doctrine that Christ would return or doctrines of judgment.

The Times They Are a-Changin'

Sermonette by Clyde Finklea

Bob Dylan's lyrics in 'The Times They Are A-changin' seem prescient; within a few years of Herbert Armstrong's death, heresies were imported into the church.

Casting Pearls

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

Jesus warns His disciples not to cast their pearls before those not called or those acting contemptuously to God's truth and would attack the messenger.

Discern and Distinguish Between Spirits

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

Inspiration and doctrine were meant to be complementary rather than adversarial. Many believe they have found new truth when they have recycled old heresies.

A Heavenly Homeland (Part One)

CGG Weekly by David C. Grabbe

When Christ returns, He will establish the Kingdom on earth and all people will be His subjects then. But what does citizenship entail now—before His return?

What Is 'My Way'?

Sermonette by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

Even though we may claim to follow God's way, there is a considerable measure of selfishness in our pathways, a tendency to be dismissive of other people.

The Sovereignty of God: Part Three

'Personal' from John W. Ritenbaugh

Consider two end-time, dominant forces: the Beast power of Revelation 13 and God. To whom will we yield to in the coming years?
