The Trinity and the Holy Spirit (Part Two)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)

The Holy Spirit is not a personality within the God family, but rather the power of God, emanating from the Father and the Son to direct and carry out His purposes in creation. It is described in various ways, such as a rushing mighty wind, something that falls or is poured out, indicating its inanimate nature rather than a personal entity. The Holy Spirit serves as the means by which we are joined into one spiritual family with each other, with God, and with Jesus Christ, enabling communion and fellowship among us through the divine nature imparted by God. It is the expression of God's power that allows Him to be present and act anywhere in His creation at any time, unlike a personality confined to one place. The Holy Spirit dwells in us, not as a person, but as the power that transforms us into the God kind, facilitating our spiritual connection and growth.

The Holy Spirit

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

In examining the nature of the Holy Spirit, particularly in relation to the concept of communion, we find a significant verse that mentions the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit together. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of our God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit are invoked to be with all. The term "communion" here signifies fellowship or sharing, indicating a hope that believers will continue to share in or by means of the Holy Spirit. This sharing binds us together as one body, despite our diverse backgrounds, races, cultures, and experiences. It is through the Holy Spirit that we take on the mind of Jesus Christ, being regenerated by this divine expression given by God to make us part of His family. Thus, the communion of the Holy Spirit serves as the unifying force, the tie that binds our hearts, enabling us to become part of God's family with Him as our Father.

What the Holy Spirit Does

Sermon/Bible Study by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

The Holy Spirit facilitates a profound connection, described as communion or fellowship, which is essential for our spiritual relationships. This fellowship, enabled by the Holy Spirit, links us with God the Father and Jesus Christ, forming the primary bond that allows any relationship to exist between us and Them. Additionally, this communion extends to our relationships with fellow believers, creating a sense of commonality and immediate kinship, even with those we have never met before. The Holy Spirit acts as the tie that binds us to the Father, to the Son, and to each other, fostering a shared spiritual unity. This connection ensures that we are not left as orphans, but rather, through the Spirit of truth dwelling in us, We dwell in Them and They in us, enriching every facet of our lives with divine fellowship.

Image and Likeness of God (Part Four)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

The numerous figures of speech describing God's body parts substantiate that God has shape and form and occupies a specific location.
