The Works of the Devil Destroyed
Sermon by Martin G. CollinsFor this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Jesus Christ came into a world under the dominion of the adversary, a world marked by misery, sin, and alienation from God, to conquer and undo the chaos caused by the adversary's rebellion. The adversary, once a perfect archangel, turned against God through pride and deception, leading humanity astray with lies and establishing a kingdom of darkness. His works have brought suffering, false teachings, wars, famines, diseases, and persecution, perverting every aspect of creation with the intent to separate people from God and destroy His glorious works. Jesus Christ, as the second Adam, refused to obey the adversary during the temptations on the Mount, remaining faithful to God and qualifying to take over the rule of the earth. Through His life, teachings, miracles, death, and resurrection, He exposed the lies and evil nature of sin, setting captives free from the adversary's chains and reconciling humanity to God. His miracles demonstrated His power to undo the adversary's bindings, while His resurrection established His conquest over death, the last enemy, proving His victory over all the adversary's works. At His Second Coming, soon to occur, Jesus Christ will return in power and glory to forcibly put an end to sin, oust the adversary from dominance, and establish the Kingdom of God on earth. He will destroy the adversary's works completely, banishing him and his cohorts, followed by a millennial period of peace under God's restored laws. This ultimate destruction of the adversary's influence is the fulfillment of Christ's purpose, ensuring that humanity is delivered from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light.
