God and mankind, represented by Adam and Eve, enjoyed an agreeable relationship in the Garden of Eden until Satan, an uninvited intruder, disturbed the peace and ruined paradise. As a deceiver, accuser, and destroyer, he has caused unbelief, fear, distrust, hatred, and division ever since. God, our Host, has prophesied in His Word that He will one day, for a time, throw the intruder out and restore peace to His fellowship with humanity. Satan is a major cause of the present separation between God and man, and his binding after Christ's return will be a vital step toward the restitution of all things, restoring conditions to the earth that will facilitate harmony between God and man during the thousand-year reign of Jesus Christ on earth. God's curse on the serpent signals the ultimate end of Satan, indicating that the woman's Seed, the Messiah, will deliver a killing blow to his head. Someday soon, just after Christ's return, God will break Satan's power over humanity for a thousand years. The Devil will be imprisoned for most of the thousand-year reign of Christ with His saints, allowing the earth and its inhabitants to enjoy times of refreshing. During this time, God will work with humanity through His resurrected firstfruits, and a proper relationship between man and God will be restored. When Christ returns, the confinement of Satan for a millennium will be among the many wonderful things to come to pass.

Satan will be deposed from his current rulership of this world at the return of Jesus Christ, ending his unseen influence that has deceived humanity since the time of Eve. Revelation 20:1-3 describes an angel binding him with a chain, casting him into the bottomless pit, and sealing him so that he cannot deceive the nations for a thousand years, though he must be released afterward for a little while. This binding is not his final judgment but serves to protect the nations from deception while reserving him for the judgment of the great day. During this period, he experiences punishment through immobilization yet awaits the verdict already pronounced against him. Isaiah 24:21-23 similarly foretells that the powers in the heavens, including Satan, along with certain kings, will be shut up in prison and punished after many days, corresponding to the time after the Millennium when the New Jerusalem descends. His binding parallels the arrest of Paul, imposed not as ultimate punishment but to prevent further trouble until the appointed judgment. After the thousand years, Satan is released from prison according to Revelation 20:7-10. He immediately deceives the nations in the four corners of the earth, gathers them as Gog and Magog to surround the camp of the saints, and is then cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and false prophet are, to be tormented day and night forever. This release allows him to commit his final rebellion, demonstrating that his nature remains unchanged despite a millennium of reflection. It also serves as a testimony that God's way alone works and provides a test for the nations, separating those who heed his message from those who obey God. Ultimately, his destruction fulfills the advance record of history, confirming that rebellion against God leads only to misery and that human nature shares his self-centered image until replaced by God's incorruptible nature.

Satan appears first in Scripture as the Serpent who deceived Eve, identified also as the fallen one from heaven, the anointed cherub who covers, the great dragon, and the Devil who deceives the whole world. He led one-third of the angels in rebellion, misusing the moral liberty God granted them and attempting to overthrow divine rule in order to replace it with themselves. God defeated the revolt, casting the rebels back to earth where they remain confined until His purpose of forming mankind in His image reaches completion. Although these demons continue to harass humanity, their ultimate penalty remains unexecuted beyond present restraint. Scripture applies the same standard of judgment to angels as to men: the wages of sin is death, and the soul who sins shall die. Prophecies declare that Satan will be cast from the mountain of God, consumed by fire from within, reduced to ashes upon the earth, and become no more forever. In the appointed judgment he and his angels are cast into the lake of fire prepared for them. This destruction removes every trace of unrighteousness, ensuring that the new heavens and new earth contain only righteousness with no memory of sin remaining. Righteous angels do not die, yet the unrepentant demons share the fate of every other unrepentant being and are annihilated.
