The Fall of Satan
Sermonette by Richard T. RitenbaughHelel became lifted up in pride because of the abundance of his trading, leading him to be excessively competitive, driving him to resentment against God.
Satan (Part 1)
Sermon by John W. RitenbaughSatan's rebellion began long before the creation of man, as a catastrophic event that reshaped the spiritual realm. He, originally named Helel, was a being of unparalleled beauty, wisdom, and power, created by God as the pinnacle of what could be formed by divine fiat. Adorned with precious stones and perfect in His ways, He was stationed in the Garden of Eden until iniquity was found in Him. This great being, full of free moral agency, turned against God, desiring to be like the Most High, to ascend into heaven, and to rule without submission. He sought complete power, authority, and control, declaring war against God and leading a faction of angels in an attack. This rebellion was defeated, and Satan, along with His followers, was cast down from heaven to the earth, as revealed in Revelation 12. The earth became their place of restraint, a prison or silo, where they are held in chains of darkness, facing judgment. Their first domain transformed into a pit, stripping them of much of their former liberty. One-third of the angels aligned with Satan, dragged down with Him, now sharing this earth with humanity as a place of confinement. Satan's fall was like a great lightning bolt streaking from the sky, a brilliant angel cast to the earth where we now reside. His influence persists, leading a vast army of demons bent on destroying God's plan. Despite their restraint, they remain formidable foes, invisible, with a deep understanding of God's laws and a long history on earth. Their rebellion has left them a kingdom divided against themselves, unable to fully unite due to their competitive and rebellious nature, yet they are held in line by Satan's sheer force, not loyalty or love. Their presence on earth poses a constant challenge, as they seek to retain their authority and rule, knowing that the heirs of salvation are destined to replace them. They use every means to thwart God's purpose, yet they tremble before Him, terrified of His ultimate power. This restraint, combined with the numerical advantage of good angels and God's protection, offers hope, though the battle against Satan's deceptive influence continues.
Why Must Satan Be Released?
Sermonette by David C. GrabbeSatan refuses to repent, even after suffering 1,000 years of confinement. Upon his release, Satan expertly manipulates the pulls of carnal nature.

Why Must Satan Be Released?
'Prophecy Watch' by David C. GrabbeSatan's rebellion stands as a dark thread woven through the history of humanity, a force of deception and destruction that will ultimately be overturned by the return of Jesus Christ to establish His Kingdom on earth. As He becomes King of kings and Lord of lords, He will depose Satan from his current rulership of this world, ending the malignant influence that has ensnared mankind since the time of Eve. During the Millennium, as described in Revelation 20:1-3, Satan will be bound, unable to deceive the nations, providing a stark contrast to the present age where his unseen governance fosters misery in a world that has rejected God's rule. This binding of Satan, paralleled by references in Isaiah 24:22 to the imprisonment of spiritual powers and kings, serves not as his final punishment but as a protective measure for the nations. The prophets depict him as an object of gaze during his confinement, already under God's verdict, yet chafing at his chains as the spirit rulers incite rebellion among the nations. When Christ returns, these powers will be shut up in prison, awaiting their judgment after many days. Satan's release after the Millennium, foretold in Revelation 20:7-9, marks his final rebellion, a history written in advance as declared by God in Isaiah 46:9-10. Despite knowing his doomed future, Satan's nature remains unchanged; even after a thousand years of confinement, he emerges to deceive once more, discounting the peace and prosperity under Christ's rule. His self-exaltation, as seen in Isaiah 14, reveals an unyielding conviction that he deserves more than what God has given, driving him to act in ways that destroy others. This release serves multiple purposes: it allows Satan to commit his final act of rebellion, provides a powerful lesson about his unchanging nature, and acts as a reminder of human nature's readiness to mirror his spiritual blindness. Just as Satan manipulates the natural inclination of the human heart toward self-centeredness, the nations fall for his deceptions, echoing Eve's fall. As a test for the nations, God's release of Satan separates those inclined to follow him from those who heed God, exposing human nature's persistent flaw that finds common cause with Satan's self-centeredness. Ultimately, Satan's initial rebellion, hinted at in Genesis 1:2 where the earth became formless and void, finds resolution in Revelation 20 through God's timing. His presence, even without forcing sin, spawns turmoil, chaos, and destruction, and his final judgment will bring relief to the earth. Yet, this also underscores the deeper issue of human carnality, which retains Satan's spiritual image and produces similar fruits of rebellion when unleashed, highlighting the need for a complete transformation into God's incorruptible nature to prevent any future defiance against His will.
Satan (Part 4)
Sermon by John W. RitenbaughThe turmoil on earth originated when vanity arose in Satan, also known as Helel, over his beauty and remarkable abilities, including tremendous intelligence and wisdom that God had instilled in him. At some point after his creation, Satan convinced himself of a lie that he was not receiving the recognition he deserved, despite his superior qualities. This lie, fueled by vanity, grew within him until he could no longer contain it, leading him to devise a false solution. He began to recruit other angels, persuading them that they too were being mistreated and that the remedy was to attack God and overthrow Him to claim their rightful positions and establish their own rules. As this insurrection expanded, it severed their connection with God, ultimately resulting in warfare. Even after a prolonged period without his influence, Satan retains the ability to deceive and incite rebellion against God, demonstrating his profound effectiveness in leading astray. His initial rebellion, rooted in self-elevation and dissatisfaction, set a pattern of deception and division that continues to impact humanity.
