The Greatness of God's Power
Sermon by Martin G. CollinsTrue Christians can always find confidence in God's promises. The apostle Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, prays for the members to know the exceeding greatness of God's power toward those who believe, as seen in the mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in heavenly places. This power, residing in us, should dispel our fears and instill a new assurance regarding our salvation. Despite the doubts that arise from our weak human state and the pressures of life, God's power works within us to overcome all obstacles. Paul emphasizes that this power is not something we achieve on our own; it is God's energy, strength, and might actively working in us, surpassing human comprehension and expression. The resurrection of Christ stands as the ultimate demonstration of God's power, proving that even the last enemy, death, has been conquered. This event assures us that no force, not even the strongest adversaries like satan or death, can withstand God's might. As believers, we are made alive together with Christ, renewed daily by the Spirit of life that frees us from the law of sin and death. This transformation into a new creation, driven by God's power, changes our disposition and directs our faculties toward righteousness, ensuring that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. God's power is the beginning and end of salvation; it is He who initiates and completes the good work in us. Through scriptures like Philippians 1:6, we are reminded that He who began this work will continue it until the day of Jesus Christ. This assurance allows us to trust that, despite our weaknesses or the challenges of this world, God's purpose for us will be fulfilled. His grace is sufficient, as seen in Paul's experience, where God's strength is made perfect in weakness, providing contentment and power even amidst infirmities for Christ's sake. Thus, we can be certain that God's mighty power, already at work within us, will keep us and prepare us for the indescribable glory that awaits.
