Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven at his martyrdom and saw Jesus standing at the right hand of God. To be at the right hand of someone in authority is the place of greatest honor, dignity, and majesty. Stephen did not see Christ seated on the throne, as in Revelation 3:21 and Hebrews 8:1 and 12:2, where He sits as the High Priest who has brought full forgiveness of sins. This time Christ was standing, looking on at what was happening, not sitting and merely viewing. He was an active participant, not a passive one. God and Christ were pleased and excited, and the angels rejoiced at Stephen's victory over sin, Satan, the world, and human nature. Stephen had been cleansed, sanctified, and prepared for God's Kingdom. At the appointed time he will bow before God the Father on the Sea of Glass, with Jesus Christ seated at the Father's right hand, when all the saints appear after the resurrection of the firstfruits. The Father and Jesus Christ either stand or sit depending on the occasion and what is going on.
