Is It Proper to Use Musical Instruments to Worship God?
Bible Questions & AnswersThe Bible clearly demonstrates that using musical instruments is appropriate when praising God. Psalm 150:3-4 instructs, "Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; praise Him with the lute and harp! Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! Praise Him with loud cymbals; praise Him with high sounding cymbals!" During King Hezekiah's time, the Levites were stationed in the house of the LORD with cymbals, stringed instruments, and harps, as commanded by the LORD through His prophets, and the congregation worshipped as the singers sang and the trumpeters sounded. Jesus Himself declares that man should live by every word of God, affirming the relevance of all Scripture. Additionally, the New Testament shows that God is praised in heaven with instrumental music, and the resurrected saints will praise Him with harps. These scriptures confirm that it is entirely proper to praise God with singing accompanied by musical instruments or by instruments alone.
