You Deceitful Tongue!
Commentary by Martin G. CollinsThere is only one way of telling the truth, but many ways of lying. Truth is single in its direction and consistency, whereas a lie jumps all over the place with different meanings. We tell the truth completely naturally, but we lie in countless different ways, assuming the different personalities of each lie. Lies do not make sense, and a deceitful tongue can be detected by determining if the story fits into a context or follows a logical sequence from A to Z. By probing and pushing the story, if it starts to wobble, the deceit becomes evident. Alertness to a speaker's baseline truth-telling mannerisms is crucial; watching for departures from this baseline reveals the presence of a deceitful tongue.

Sermon/Bible Study by Richard T. RitenbaughBeing blindsided by the betrayal of a friend or a brother in the church is one of the hardest experiences to endure. Even Jesus Christ had to face betrayal from Judas Iscariot. It was among the final trials He had to bear. Yet, in response, He instructed Judas with resolve, saying, "What you have to do, do quickly." This example underscores the profound pain of betrayal and the strength required to confront it, trusting in God's justice to prevail in His time.
